Swing Test WIP: Blocking II

So I decided to go back and revisit this test from Spring Break.

I'm still not through with blocking. I'm going to call it quits for tonight and look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow. I need to work on balancing that ending pose and getting the turn to look a little more appealing. Also, I want to try to add some overlap in the ears and more drag to the body overall.

I'm actually really excited about this one. I've been feeling kinda lost with my dialogue so doing something like this was really refreshing.

I'll be posting the finished final blocking pass soon before I go into spline. I just really wanted to post this today because I was pleased with where this was going after just a day.

On an off-hand note, this has been a reminder to me of how much I really do like body-mechanic shots and doing more action-y animations. While feature animation is still my dream and I suppose the "ultimate" goal, I can't help but really like the idea of animation for game. Whether that be cinematics or gameplay (or both), I'm still kinda figuring that out. But right now I just know it's something I really do like doing. And I'm thinking if I keep this up I may just make a completely separate reel just for game animation including the mocap stuff. Admittedly, it's kind of a relief to not have to worry about facial animation at all with this rig. I can do work with the entire body and silhouettes. I enjoy gesture drawing so, I guess that's how my mind works..?

Of course, I'm not going to give up on more acting-type shots and dialogues. I think a lot has to do with just not having as much experience with things like lip sync and facial, so I'm just automatically drawn to what I'm more comfortable with. Also, I think I just need to start going for simpler ideas for my dialogues.
