3D Bean Bag WIP: Blocking Round 1

In an attempt to try to get a little bit ahead and be prepared for my 3D principles class I'll be taking after the holiday break, I'm trying to animate my bean bag from my 2D principles in Maya.

This is just the blocked version so far. I think I need to do some tweaking here. It's really different. Now that I have to work with this rig that only bends and works in certain ways I can't quite match the 2D version exactly. However, it's kind of a relief being limited and not needing to worry about bending the character in ways that it wouldn't realistically be able to as I can in drawing.

This was probably one of the biggest things I missed when needing to draw everything. Perhaps some people prefer it, but to me it just felt like too much to think about. With the rig, it pretty much stops you from manipulating it in ways that it shouldn't whereas with drawing, you can draw it wrong and not notice that it isn't correct.

I know it's going to be difficult like in the summer to stay motivated and keep working on these things, especially when I still haven't taken a formal class in 3D animation and have no idea what I'm doing. But it'll probably be worth it.

I like that I have these 2D animations now. Because it's an original action/scenario that I can use as reference. Having a prompt takes the annoying part out of trying to come up with an idea. It makes it even easier when I've already animated it and now I'm just trying to use these same principles to do it in 3D.

In other news, I tried playing around in Zbrush yesterday. I really want to make myself a 3D avatar and characters that I can use on my website and on my channels. I would just really like something 3D that can act as an icon for myself to really represent what I want to be pursuing.

It's tough when I feel like I'm so far behind. I expect myself to be out there taking flight already, but I'm not. I'm just getting started and it was my choice to start over. But it's for the best as I always say.

I'll be better because of it.
