Final Project Part 1: Model Sheet

For our final animation in this class we get to design our own character and animate it with our own story and scenario. Although it seems like a lot of creative freedom would be exciting, I am really nervous for this one. There were still a lot of limitations on the character design due to the fact that it needs to be easy to animate. And as a novice animator, I should keep it pretty simple to make it easier on myself.

I went with this alien character. I kept him very simplistic. However, I was afraid I might have made him too simple and kind of bland. To my surprise, though, my professor today told me he really liked my character. Still ending up with B-, the thing that killed my grade was (again) the drawings. My lines are messy and shaky and thus resulting in inconsistent volumes. An issue that I seem to run into time and time again.

I was honestly preparing myself for the worst. But it honestly didn't feel too bad. There were not as many marks made on my page as I thought there would be. And I actually didn't seem to have a problem in the construction of the turnaround and shape breakdowns.

I did, however have to change my scenario entirely. The concept of him having trouble getting a snack from a vending machine is the same, but his process of getting it involves a head butt rather than a kick.

Another note on that: the acting in class was not as bad as I thought it would be either. Normally, I get really shaky and red when I have to do something like that in front of a bunch of people, but I really felt carefree and comfortable. I tried really hard to not think too hard about the motions and remembering what I was doing. That would normally get me nervous just ensuring that I don't go up there and forget what I'm going to do. But it was all fine.

My thumbnails below are to be put into an animatic by next Tuesday as well as fixing what needs to be fixed on the model sheet.

Time to work and not think about how there are only 2 weeks left of the quarter. o_o
