Rigging Tuts + Finding Models
A small progress report.
Yesterday I tried something a little different. Instead of working on animation, I decided to watch some rigging tutorials since I know nothing on the subject of rigging. I don't even know where to begin and it seems so complicated.
I watched 2 Lynda tutorials and a couple of YouTube ones as well. I watched some basics as well as how to rig an IK control. I took a ton of notes and I actually found it to not be as crazy as I expected. I'm sure it'll get more complicated as it goes on. I haven't even looked at FK yet. But I'm really interested in it. The unfortunate part was trying to find an unrigged character model (a good one) to try practicing on. I downloaded some project files with one of the tutorials, but I would like to be able to apply some of the things from the tutorial to more complex models.
I remember I had a problem with this last year too trying to find models to work with. I found some that I could pay for that weren't too outrageous. But of course free is always better especially when you're a poor art student who's only accumulating more debt day-by-day.
So unfortunately nothing to show today. The rigging tutorials did encourage me to want to try modeling my own characters more. As always, there's so much I have yet to learn and I'm constantly being overwhelmed on where to begin. I know that my main focus NEEDS to be on animation. I mean... it's my major. But I would really love to be able to do the other things to at least a somewhat decent degree. (I've also been trying to get into C4D). If I could make my own rigs and animate that, I'd feel pretty darn good. It just sucks when I'm starting at absolute zero with all of it.
Patience, practice, and perseverance. And a lot of self-discipline. The usual.
